When artist John and his wife Juliette started house hunting in rural Norfolk around 20 years ago, they were looking for the perfect bolt hole for weekends and holidays, as John explains: ‘We were living in London at the time but wanted a house in the countryside that we could use as a retreat, where we could have friends to stay, and throw great Christmas and New Year parties without upsetting the neighbours. We had no intention of moving up here permanently, but after two short years in this place, that’s exactly what we did. ’
