Casually sophisticated Johannesburg home

To create a more modern, open-plan layout downstairs, a cottage which ran the length of the west façade was incorporated into the footprint of the house, and some key internal walls were removed. The walls and staircase were repainted, new wooden floors were installed, light fittings were replaced and the kitchen and bathrooms were transformed with modern fittings and accessories.
